Who benefits from what you know?
Wisdom kept to yourself benefits one person. Documented and shared, it reaches people you have yet to meet, including the next generation already coming up behind you. A book, a program, a course or a venture gives your experience a form others can use.
That is how your living legacy develops while you are active: through contribution made on your terms and within your control. Beyond you. Because of you.
Who started while they were active?
Each of these began with decades of experience, started while they were active, and reached people right away. What they began keeps reaching people today.
- Dolly Parton In 1995 she started the Imagination Library to mail free books to young children, and she kept funding it for thirty years. The books still arrive in mailboxes every month. Read her Masterwork study
- Steven Spielberg After Schindler’s List, he started the Shoah Foundation in 1994 to record Holocaust survivors’ testimony while survivors could still give it. Now part of USC, it holds tens of thousands of video testimonies and uses them to teach.
- Warren Buffett For nearly six decades, his annual letters to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders put what he knew about business and investing into plain language, free for anyone to read.
- Paul Newman In 1982 he started Newman’s Own, a food company that gives all its profits to charity, and in 1988 the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for seriously ill children. Both continue today.
- Jane Goodall In 1991 she started Roots & Shoots with a group of students in Tanzania, turning decades of field research into action by young people around the world. She kept building it until her death in 2025.
- Ray Dalio Decades of decision-making rules, first written down for the people at Bridgewater Associates, became Principles, published in 2017 for anyone to use.
- Paul Otlet He set out to organize the world’s published knowledge on millions of index cards so anyone could find what they needed, decades before the internet. Read his Masterwork study
What form will your wisdom take?
The future is the destination for your wisdom. Your masterwork reaches others through what you choose to make, contribute, document and share.
Where does Transform the Future fit in A.C.T.?
In A.C.T. (Assemble. Cultivate. Transmit.), transforming the future is Transmit: sharing what you have cultivated in a form that reaches beyond you, whether taught, scaled, or entrusted to others in a form they can use. Champion the Past shows Assembling, and Create Today shows Cultivating.
What would you ask yourself about tomorrow?
Transform Tomorrow
- What wisdom should reach other people?
- Who can benefit because of what I know?
- What remains unfinished?
- Who do I want to entrust with what I know?
- What form would make my knowledge easiest for others to use?
These are present-tense questions about decades of material. Answering them is how you transform tomorrow. For questions across all three, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, see Champion Yesterday. Create Today. Transform Tomorrow.
The past is where you gathered your material. The present is where your masterwork takes form. The future is where your wisdom and masterwork reach others. That’s Masterwork. Now’s the time to develop your masterwork. Ask for an invitation to the Masterwork360 Mastermind.
